Do you mind if I plug my friends new venture?

www.chezcharente.com

I visited the property last summer before they started to alter it and the children loved it.
I worked with Penny for quite a few years and she is Godmother to DS2 (so will vouch for her impeccable character). I think her idea of providing childcare ( including respite for special needs)is a brilliant addition and bonus to a Gîtes holiday.
I particularly like the idea of having a night's babysitting included, to enjoy a meal out.
The property also sounded like it could easily accomodate most of our larger than everage families!!!

Please have a look and feel free to pass on the link to anyone who may be interested.

I haven't. Blimey, that's expensive, if you think about flights and stuff aswell. Sounds idyllic, but it would have to be something more than it is for me to cough up that much I'm afraid.

Lovely place, though.

Thats not too bad a price for a four bedroom which would fit us all in. We pay £675 for a 3 bedroom in Tenby and 3 of the kids have to stay with their grandparents in a different appartment. It looks nice but it would be a long drive from the ports , it says its a days drive and that would be on top of the drive to the ports and the channel crossing.

That's actaully not bad prices for summer time French gites. They do get really hiked up. And babysitting on site would be heaven!

We spent a few summers in France and twice we found places that were for sale on the internet and made them an offer for a long let (6 or 8 weeks). Brought the price down quite a bit!

The only thing that would be put me off (if we could afford it!) is the pool - I am so paranoid about water and children I wouldn't holiday anywhere that had a pool on site.

Good luck though. I'll pass the link on to a few other people who might appreciate it.

Been there again to see our friends and there is loads of room, so if kids didn't mind being on floor in various rooms, they would easily accomodate 6 adults in doubles(incl sofa) 2 full size bunks and a fair number of children beside!.
As for the pool, they have an alarm on it but it's on a seperate terrace area which will be gated off anyway. Also the gîte has it's own garden as well as the communal area.
