As some of you will know I have a company selling maternity sportswear. I have been offered a chance to advertise in a publication by the RCOG about pregnancy and womens health which will be given free to all pregnant women .They are producing 500000 copies per year. They are only having a limited number of adverts realvant to the articles and they will be approved by the RCOG. The advert would be quite prominant but as it will be expensive and a big risk I could do with your help. It will be authoritive but also like a glossy magazine. Would you read such a magazine? Could you guesstimate the % of women who would bother to read the magazine. Who would read an article on exercise in pregnancy. How many would look at the advert. How many would have internet acess. How many would go and look up the website If you are not pregnany now think about how many magazines you bought and whether you looked at the adverts and bought things after seeing those adverts in magazines. Would you be more or less likely to read it because it will be free and endorced by the RCOG? Many thanks if you can help. This could really kickstart my buisness or it could be a costly mistake. |

Right is this mag going to be given out in the box of stuff that you get when you book in/first scan? Because if it is i would def read it, not the articles but the adverts, i always look through these things as they often have disco0unt vouchers, maybe you could do a discount voucher in the advert? If i saw the advert and it was something i wanted to buy then i would look up the website. Im not currently pg and i dont buy mags because they are a waste of money, unless its 0on a topic i need for example if i need a new car then i would buy the auto trader. Hope thay helps. Vxx I know life is a long journey, so im just going to see where it takes me.

When I was pregnant - especially with my first - I bought magazines and read them cover to cover. I read the adverts too and got maternity wear links from there. I think many first time Mums buy lots of mags and do read them. It sounds to me like a good idea and I hope you get lots of business from it.

i agree. With the first you read everything cover to cover! Perhaps give thema code to quote for % off or free p+p?then you could quantify the referrals? good luck. |

It sounds like a good idea to me. My only comment would be to make sure your advert is very professional and carefully proof read. I often see adverts for smaller businesses in magazines that are let down by the advert not being well designed. Karen Strength is the capacity to break a chocolate bar into four pieces with your bare hands -- and then eat just one of the pieces."

I,m told they aim to make sure all women get it NHS and private. They should get it at booking but be asked at later appointments if they have recieved it. I was thinking of doing that Juliet ,there is a facility on my website to have an order code which I have not used yet. A read a website that suggested that was the way to get people to act. The company producing the advert is offering to include design free in the price. |

Lots of good advice already here Catherine. I read anything I was given when pregnant, especially with the first . Partly out of interest and partly incase there were any special offers in the mags! Good luck with this. Anything which encourages women to stay fit during pregnancy is excellent. Feel the fear.....and do it anyway!

I read it all - and sent off for free information and special offers. However, I don't know how much it will cost and I think that the referral rate will be pretty low. I'm not saying it's not worth it. YOu might want to ring one of the other adverts in something unrelated and ask what they get back. What you will do is increase awareness so you want the advert to stick in their minds! Could you produce an information sheet on exercise in pregnancy that you could give away to anyone who sends an SAE and put your details on it? Again, it would be good if it looked professional but it doesn't have to be too much. Thinking about it the information sheet could be on the website - encouaging people to log on. (I was thinking back to 1994 and there wasn't internet the same way!) |
